History of the Manitoulin Haweater Dollars
During each year, April to November, the Haweater Dollar is an item of trade
on Manitoulin Island since 1969.
It originated as a souvenir of the Little Current Lion's Club annual
"Haweater Weekend" in 1968. The Haweater Dollars evoke much history of the
Island; while the reverse always depicts the same features (a map of Manitoulin,
a deer, a fish and an angler in a boat), the front of the coin changes from year
to year.
This coin now boasts the longest consecutive minting in Canada.
